Problem Statement Research Question and Hypotheses

Think of some challenges you have faced in your current or previous employment. Summarize the problem, develop a research question, and state the null and alternative hypotheses that could be used to solve this problem. Problem Statement Research

A chain of command exists in an organization through which communication is expected to flow from the highest managerial level to the lowest in a tall organization.  However, Problem Statement Research there gets to a point in this chain at which supervisors are at the same level hence the span of control becomes critical. The problem faced was that communication to employees from these supervisors was sometimes different in terms of the task required to be completed. They would give completely different instructions on the methods to perform a task, resulting in confusion among the employees. 

Research Question

            How does the number of supervisors per employee affect task performance?

Hypotheses

            H₀₁(null hypothesis): There is no statistically significant

relationship between the span of control of supervisors and task performance.

            H_a1(alternative hypothesis): There is a statistically significant relationship between the span of control of supervisors and task performance.

A span of control refers to the number of subordinates reporting to a supervisor. In this case, being the number of employees reporting directly to a supervisor shows two groups, the employees and the supervisors. The intercommunication between these two groups is the problem that consequently affects performance and eventually productivity. Therefore, the hypotheses mentioned above are concerned with relationships between groups.
